The Top 15 Most Requested Songs of 2015
2015 is now in the history books and 2016 is here and ready to be noticed. One of my favorite things to do each January is to look through all of the requests we have received over the course of the previous year and see how the songs match up against each other. I have compiled all of the requests we received through our online planning tools and at events and tallied the numbers up to put together this list of the 15 most requested songs of 2015. Keep in mind that this isn’t a list of the hottest new songs in popular music – this is a list of the songs that people just like you wanted to dance to the most! Some of these songs have been among your favorites for a very long time now, and some of these are appearing on the list for the very first time this year!
#15 Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
Thinking Out Loud was released late in the summer of 2014, and it didn’t even crack the top 200 songs when I last did this list, but before long this was the most requested song for a couple’s first dance in 2015!
#14 John Legend – All Of Me
All Of Me, is a dedication to John Legend’s wife, and is his most successful song to date. Last year this song came in at number 31 on our list, but it moved on up to the 14th position this year!
#13 Walk The Moon – Shut Up And Dance
You have heard Walk The Moon’s simple and in your face rock song almost everywhere this past year. Shut Up And Dance was release late in the summer of 2014, and it makes it’s first appearance on our list at number 13!
#12 Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl
Brown Eyed Girl is considered by many to be Van Morrison’s signature song, and because it is such a favorite it doesn’t move around much on our lists. Last year this song was in the 11th position, and our 2013 list had it at number 7.
#11 Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines
Robin Thicke’s anthem has been sitting high on our request list charts for a few years now, but it has slipped down a few notches, from number 2 on last year’s list to the 9th spot.
#10 Bruno Mars – Marry You
Marry You was in the 10th spot on our most requested songs list last year, and it has held firmly on to that position for 2015.
#9 Bon Jovi – Livin’ On A Prayer
The boys from New Jersey have been sitting in the top 10 with this song for decades now and Livin’ On A Prayer shows no signs of slowing down. It was at #4 in 2013 and #5 in 2014, and comes in at #9 this year. I would expect this song to continue to be a favorite for a long time to come!
#8 Cupid – Cupid Shuffle
The Cupid Shuffle was never a huge chart hit – it didn’t even make the top 40, yet with it’s infectious beat and easy to follow dance moves it continues to be a dance floor draw 8 years after it’s release. This one was at #4 last year, and slips to #8 on the 2015 list.
#7 Neil Diamond – Sweet Caroline
You know you’re singing along with this one right now. It has been an absolute favorite since it was released way back in 1969. So good, so good, so good.
#6 Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling
DJ’s have been using this song to launch dance floors since it was released back in 2009, and judging by your requests it must still be a great choice. This was the number 2 request in 2013 and number 3 in 2014, and still comes in at #6 this year!
#5 Taylor Swift – Shake It Off
Taylor Swift released Shake it Off mid-August 2014 and it quickly became a highly recognized and requested song, that climbed up to 127 on the most requested charts for 2014 in just a little over 4 months. That climb continued through 2015, putting Taylor at #5 on our Most Requested Song list.
#4 Whitney Houston – I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)
Whitney’s fourth #1 hit is definitive 80’s bubble gum Pop and you love every minute of it. This song continues to move on our requested song charts, climbing from #15 in 2013 to #8 in 2014 and up to the 4th position for 2015!
#3 Pharrell Williams – Happy
Pharrell Williams scored a #1 hit in 24 countries with this hand clapping soulful tune, and it shows no signs of waning in popularity. It debuted on our most requested songs list at #7 last year and climbed on up to #3 for 2015.
#2 Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’
As soon as the keyboards start on this track you know you are ready to start belting out the lyrics. Don’t Stop Believin’ has been in the #1 position on our request charts for years now, and it is obviously still a favorite. It slipped down to #2 on our list of most requested songs this year because of a new contender…
And the #1 pick on our list of the Most Requested Songs of 2015 is….
#1 Mark Ronson ft Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk
You might remember that I predicted this song was going to be a huge hit in this post late in 2014, and 2015 was the year of the funk! Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars scored big with this incredible hit that has been packing dance floors since it’s release. It was released too late in 2014 to crack our top 200 list, so it made it’s debut on the list this year in the top position! That is absolutely incredible and unheard of in my 20+ years as a DJ!
